WE NEED DEVELOPMENT
WHERE DO WE STAND IN DEVELOPMENT?
According to 1991 census, the illiteracy rate in India is 43%, of which 33% is in the urban areas and 67% is in rural areas. Similarly there are a lot of people in India who struggle to get even 1 meal per day and rarely have access to any type of medical services.
OUR RESPONSIBILITIES AND ROLE OF IDRF IN FULFILLING THEM
Since we (NRIs) are blessed with all these facilities in this land of opportunities, it becomes our responsibility to give a helping hand to our brethren in India and elsewhere. IDRF (India Development & Relief Fund) has been involved in doing yeoman service to the less fortunate in India.
IDRF successfully supported a number of projects and organizations involved in relief and development work, such as: (Details are provided by IDRF on their website at www.idrf.org )
WE NEED DEVELOPMENT
Dr. Abdul Kalam, President of India, has said, “My second vision for India is DEVELOPMENT. For fifty years we have been a developing nation. It is time we see ourselves as a developed nation.” To realize this dream we need to contribute whatever we can to reduce illiteracy, poverty and the curse of diseases. We the supporters of IDRF graciously thank it for giving us the opportunity to contribute our bit towards the development of India.
WHY THEY HATE IDRF?
The report by Mr. Biju Mathew, founder of FOIL (Forum of Indian Leftists, a wing of Communist Party of India (M) , in the US, is politically motivated and aimed at furthering the agenda of Communist parties in the US (although it is officially banned). Some of the reasons for hatred:
One would think, why should somebody oppose raising funds for Kargil Martyrs or for the victims of 9/11?
To know the deeper cause of hatred, let us examine the background of these little known groups. According to ideologues of the communists, patriotism and nationalism is for the weak. It promotes intolerance, hatred and insecurity among people.
It is for this reason that FOIL opposed any Indian retaliation to Pakistani aggression during the Kargil war. In fact, their members are “for setting Kashmir Free” and thereby compromising the territorial integrity of India and giving-in to the designs of terrorism supported by Pakistan. It is not surprizing to see that they have targeted IDRF for helping the victims of Sept 11th terrorist attacks.
IDRF has been funding many organizations like Sewa Bharati, Vanvasi Kalyan Parishad etc. which are involved in doing service to the less privileged without any discrimination of caste, religion or social status. An ample proof for it is that many other charitable organizations in the US have also been funding these very organizations which Mr. Mathew ‘accuses’ IDRF of funding.
SOME OBSERVATIONS ABOUT IDRF
As supporters of IDRF, we have visited many projects funded by IDRF and didn’t even an iota of truth in the allegations of Mr. Mathew, on the contrary we found that 100% of our donated money was well utilized for the cause it was given. We were amazed at the selfless service done by these organizations and have no doubts at all that we would like to send more money to help our brethren in India.
We observed that IDRF volunteers are friendly with other Indian charities and their volunteers although it can apparently create some competition in fund raising. We never found anyone disrespecting other organizations based on their political inclination. In fact IDRF volunteers have spared no negative energy in criticizing others just because differences in philosophy or out of fear of loosing funds to them. Probably that is the secret of their success! No bad publicity or malicious campaign was ever done where IDRF volunteers are involved.
NEED TO STOP FALSE PROPAGANDA
However due to the malicious propaganda by these hate groups, we feel that India will be hurt if people give in to these false reports. As supporters of IDRF we feel that this HATE IDRF Campaign must STOP and appeal to the people running this hate campaign to work with us in making India ‘A Developed Nation’ where no one dies of starvation and everybody has access to Education and Health Care.
